Car Accident in a Rental Car — What to Do and Who Pays

Car Accident in a Rental Car — What to Do and Who Pays

Nobody plans to get into an accident

But Tashkent traffic is unpredictable. Before you get behind the wheel of a rental car, understand what insurance covers you and what happens if something goes wrong.

Insurance on our cars

OSAGO (mandatory liability insurance) — every car has it. It covers damage you cause to OTHER vehicles, property, or people. It does NOT cover our car.

KASKO (voluntary full coverage) — on newer and more expensive cars (Malibu, K5, Equinox, Carnival, EVs). Covers damage to our car from accidents, weather, and vandalism. If the car has KASKO and the accident isn't your fault, you pay nothing.

Important: the insurer does not cover damage up to the deposit amount — in effect, your deposit IS the deductible. Damage above that amount is covered by insurance, but only if the accident is officially processed through the traffic police (UBDD). If both parties agree not to call the police, the client bears full liability.

What to do right after an accident

  • 1. Stop. Don't move the car. Turn on hazard lights, set up the warning triangle (it's in the trunk).
  • 2. Check for injuries. If yes — ambulance first: 103.
  • 3. Call traffic police: 102. Without their report, insurance won't process the claim. Wait time: 30-60 minutes.
  • 4. Call us: +998 78 113 78 70. We'll come and help with paperwork. If you don't speak Uzbek or Russian — definitely call, we'll translate.
  • 5. Photograph everything. Damage to both cars, license plates, overall scene.

Who pays for repairs

Other driver's fault: their OSAGO covers our car's repair. You pay nothing. Full deposit refunded.

Your fault, car has KASKO: you cover damage up to the deposit amount (the deposit serves as the deductible). Everything above that is covered by insurance, provided the accident was processed through UBDD.

Your fault, no KASKO: repair cost is deducted from your deposit. If repair exceeds the deposit, you pay the difference.

Vehicle downtime

If the car goes into repair after an accident, the company may charge for the days the car couldn't be rented out. This is standard practice in car rental.

Minor damage

A stone chip on the highway, a small bumper scratch — we won't charge you for polishing. A dent, a cracked bumper, or a broken headlight — that's a repair. All existing damage is photographed at pickup and compared at return.

Traffic fines

Tashkent has many speed cameras. Fines arrive with a 3-5 day delay, which is why the deposit is returned within 5 business days.

Additionally: if you exceed 120 km/h, our GPS tracker records it, and we charge a 100,000 sum penalty per violation on top of any camera fines.
